What is Splendid Chaos ?
Splendid Chaos is urban abstract art inspired by my life, my culture, hip-hop and its effects on the world and myself. My work has a strong emphasis on bold color, loose lines, and the black female figure. Every detail in my art is never truly planned but rather defined once I start. There is attitude and emotion in each color and shape used in these paintings sparking dialogue usually between the viewer and myself.
Thus being said, Splendid Chaos is based on the idea that, “What is not obvious is always present.” While any viewer may see the naked woman’s body the colors, strokes and lines used to create that woman are often misunderstood, confused, abused or overlooked. The work always poses the question that there is something more to be learned whether it be about the artist, the inspiration, or simply how the piece came to be with its infinite details. There are many different concepts that are explored in my work but there is heavy emphasis on the naked black woman in many of the pieces. I believe it brings about the larger topic at hand, about black women and the world. Who is she? How can beauty come from her exploitation? Why was her body used for perversion but never glorified in art? |
The focus on this is birthed from my own years of questioning myself, my culture, being woman, a painter, and desiring to fit in etc. I found through exploring such topics I could overcome my own low self-esteem and questions... As a result of this I found that while women, and more specifically black women appear strong and resilient there was so much more to her story, always like mine. For what makes her is not obvious but it is always present and that was, is, and will be Splendid Chaos by K. Sinful. |
